Rogsbert F. Phillips-Reed, M.D., FounderNative Georgian and Founder of SBC, Dr. Phillips-Reed received her medical degree from Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1977 and completed the Emory University Hospitals General Surgery Program in 1982.  She has since practiced in metropolitan Atlanta specializing in Breast Disease.  Dr. Phillips-Reed heads Metro Surgical Associates Inc., an organization which is at the forefront of breast cancer treatment and breast cancer research.  She is a Board Certified Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeon.  Other affiliations include the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Women Surgeons, Surgical Oncology Society, Georgia Surgical Society, Medical Association of Atlanta, Atlanta Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.

She practices in Atlanta, Macon, and Fitzgerald.  She is a graduate of Finch University of Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School, North Chicago.  Dr.  Kirkman-Bey completed her residency at Henry Ford in Emergency Medicine.  Among her many ventures, Dr. Kirkman-Bey is a founding member of MyEcon, Inc., marketing company and serve as an Associate Professor at Mercer University.

Jeanne Calloway, TreasurerJeanne Calloway has over 25 years of leadership and senior management experience with major Fortune 500 companies including: First Data, BellSouth, MCI/British Telecommunications, GTE, Abbott Laboratories, Bausch & Lomb, and Haggar Apparel.  Jeanne is currently employed with First Data as a Senior Vice President and CFO of their International Division. Previously Jeanne worked at BellSouth in numerous management and executive roles for eight years including her last assignment as Assistant Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis.  Prior to 1998 Jeanne was Senior Manager of Planning & Analysis at MCI Telecommunications including two years abroad working on assignment as part of an executive exchange program for British Telecom in London.   Jeanne won MCI’s Presidential excellence award for her efforts in 1996. Jeanne has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Michigan State University and is an active Certified Public Accountant in the state of Georgia.

Jocelyn Dorsey, NominatingMs. Dorsey has been with WSB-TV for 39 years.  She has been Director of Editorials and Public Affairs at Channel 2 since 1983.  From 1973-1983, Ms. Dorsey was the first African-American anchor of Channel 2 newscasts and the first African American news anchor in the Atlanta market.  Ms. Dorsey is the Executive Producer and Host of People 2 People, a weekly half-hour public affairs program which is broadcast at 6:30 a.m. Sunday mornings on Channel 2.

William J. Bennett, Ph.D., MSHS William Bennett is clinical and pharmaceutical business professional. He works with industry professionals to advance the key objectives in all phase of clinical trials towards the development of novel therapies, medical devices and new interventions to advance health disparities.  Dr. Bennett currently serves as a Reviewer on the Institutional Review Board at Piedmont Healthcare, and maintains active membership with the American Society of Minority Transplant Health Related Professionals (ASMTHP), the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientist (AAPS), the International Society of Biological Environmental Repository (ISBER) and the American Association of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).  A native of the West Indies, he obtained his degrees from Florida A&M University, George Washington University, Walden University, and Ross University School of Medicine.  Dr. Bennett shares a passion for his work in clinical development, business development and cancer research.  He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he volunteers with at risk communities, including the homeless and poor, and also mentor young men who are on the verge of entering high school and college.

Benton, M.D., Member, Board of DirectorsDr. Benton is the oldest of seven children, and I was born and raised by my grandmother, Ms. Lilar Benton, in Savannah, Georgia.  A graduate of Armstrong State College, Dr. Benton majored in Chemistry and Mathematics where he graduated Magna Cum Laude from in 1983 with a B.S. Degree in both Chemistry and Mathematics.  Dr. Benton enrolled in Morehouse School of Medicine in 1983 where he was President of the freshman and sophomore classes.  Dr. Benton subsequently finished first in his medical school class, and did a residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia.  While in medical school, Dr. Benton married a high school friend, Eleanor, and they subsequently had three wonderful children (Loron, James II, and Leah) during his residency.  After completing his residency in Medicine, he went into private practice as an Internist in Savannah, Georgia.

Lisa DiFrancesco, M.D., Member, Board of DirectorsDr. DiFrancesco is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery and maintains an active membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons as well as the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. A native of New York, she graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College.   After completing Plastic Surgical training in New York, Dr. DiFrancesco participated in a highly specialized oculoplastic surgery fellowship with Clinton D. McCord, MD of Atlanta. There she pioneered research investigating eyelid innervation to avoid complication after eyelid surgery. Additionally, Dr. DiFrancesco completed the prestigious Aesthetic and Breast Surgery fellowship at Paces Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, GA.  Dr. DiFrancesco is a candidate for 2102 Woman of the Year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for her efforts in helping raise money for groups and affiliates associated with the work of finding a cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma.

Karen Godette, M.D., Member, Board of DirectorsDr. Godette is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist and an Associate Professor in Emory University School of Medicine and clinical member of the Winship Cancer Institute.  She is the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Emory University Hospital Midtown.  Dr. Godette is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, the American Board of Radiology, and the National Medical Association, where she served as Chair of the radiology section from 2005 – 2007. Dr. Godette was presented with the Woodruff Fund Clinical Teaching Support Award in Radiation Oncology in 2002 for her commitment to teaching. She is a manuscript reviewer for The International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, and the Journal of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Godette is originally from Guyana, South America. She received her Masters and Medical Degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.  Her residency in radiation oncology was completed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. 

Cassandra Moore, MBA

Cassandra Moore, MBA, Member, Board of DirectorsCassandra Moore is a native of Alabama and a graduate of Tuskegee University.  Cassandra is employed at Grady Health System.  She has been employed with the health system for 26 years.  During her tenure at Grady she has worked in all divisions of pathology.  Currently, she is the Lead Pathologist Assistant (PA) in the surgical pathology department.   In her role as a PA she works closely with pathologists from Emory University and physicians from both Emory and Morehouse School of Medicine.  Cassandra is responsible for assist in the training of Residents and Chief Residents in Pathology.  As a 11 year breast cancer survivor Cassandra is a strong breast cancer awareness advocate.

Oprea-Ilies, M.D., Member, Board of DirectorsDr. Oprea-Ilies is an Assistant Professor and Breast Pathologist with Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine.  A native of Romania, Dr. Oprea-Ilies graduated with her medical degree from Tirgu-Mures Medical School in Romania in 1978.  She completed her rotational internship and residency in General Practice at the Regional Hospital Brasov in Romania.  Dr. Oprea-Ilies also completed a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Bucharest Affiliated Hospitals; She was a special fellow in Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pathology in the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C.; Visiting Resident in Renal Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; Residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Regions Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota; Residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis; and a Cytopathology Fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.  Dr. Oprea-Ilies is the recipient of multiple grants awarded to Winship Cancer Institute.  Dr. Oprea-Ilies prides herself on being an expert on Triple negative breast cancer and is the author of dozens of publications related an array of oncologic diseases.

Karen Pope, MBA

Karen Pope, MBA, Member, Board of DirectorsIn 2003 Karen started her own firm, Pope Consulting, as a contract lobbyist and has created an impressive list of clients. Prior to that in 2000, she served as senior governmental affairs representative for Georgia EMC and its family of companies, representing the businesses before the General Assembly. From 1991 to 1999, Karen Pope worked for BFI Waste Systems. Karen's community involvement includes extensive work with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. She chaired the Economic Development, Taxes and Tourism Committee of the Chamber's Government Affairs Council for four years. She co-chaired the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House's Annual Fundraiser, which supports the entire operating budget of the two Atlanta-area houses.  Karen received a Bachelor's of Science Degree from the University of Georgia where she helped restart the student government association and was elected campus-wide. She received the prestigious Malanos Award in her Masters of Business Administration from Georgia State University.

Yara V. Robertson, M.D.

Robertson is a fellowship trained Breast Surgical Oncologist and is board certified in General Surgery by the American College of Surgeons.  She is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Dr. Robertson is initially a native of Memphis, Tennessee. She earned her undergraduate degree from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and her medical degree from Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. She completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR. Dr. Robertson completed her fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in June 2011.  She relocated to Atlanta in August of 2011 to join Dr. Rogsbert F. Philips-Reed at Metro Surgical Associates, Inc.  Dr. Robertson is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the Association of Women Surgeons.  She believes that everyone, including the uninsured and the underinsured should be given quality breast health care and is passionate about eliminating disparities in breast cancer treatment, especially in the African American community. She participates in a number of health fairs providing free clinical breast exams and lectures on breast health

Maria Smith, Member, Board of DirectorsBorn and reared on the island of Hawaii.  Maria has called metro Atlanta home since 1992.  She currently resides in Gwinnett County with her husband and 3 1/2 year old son.  Maria has over 19 years of banking and leadership experience.  Maria started her banking career with SouthTrust Bank and currently holds the position of Vice President, Business Banker with PNC Bank.  As a business banker Maria works with companies with revenues up to $10 million helping them with their overall financial goals.  Currently Maria is learning and appreciating the game of golf and is a HUGE Atlanta Falcons fan!

Lourdes Mavel Summers, Member, Board of DirectorsMrs. Lourdes Mavel Summers is a native of the Republic of Honduras. She received her degree from the National University of Honduras (UNAH) in Industrial Engineering in 1990. Mrs. Summers was appointed by President Maduro as Concielar to Honduras Consulate in Atlanta, GA in 2001, and President Mel Zelaya as Honorary Consul to Atlanta GA as Diplomat credentialed by the U.S. State Department in 2007. Mrs. Summers years of experience in industrial engineering includes diagnostics skills in distribution of processes of production, time and movements; Engineering of methods – a study of quality systems and improvement; Organizational diagnostics and improvement of a preventive maintenance of industries; and evaluation of investments projects in areas of marketing, production and finance. Currently, Mrs. Summers serves as Honorary Consul-Republic of Honduras to Atlanta, GA and is the CEO/Owner of the Madrid Group, Inc.
